  • Proverbs 16:32 — He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

    Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
  • Acts 24:24-25 — But some days later Felix arrived with Drusilla, his wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him {speak} about faith in Christ Jesus.
    But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, "Go away for the present, and when I find time I will summon you."
  • 1 Timothy 3:1-10 — It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires {to do.}
    An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
    not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.
    {He must be} one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity
    (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?),
  • Titus 2:2-9 — Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.
    Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
    so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
    {to be} sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
    Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;
  • Galatians 5:22-23 — But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
    gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 — Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but {only} one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
    Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then {do it} to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
  • 2 Peter 1:4-9 — For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of {the} divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
    Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in {your} moral excellence, knowledge,
    and in {your} knowledge, self-control, and in {your} self-control, perseverance, and in {your} perseverance, godliness,
    and in {your} godliness, brotherly kindness, and in {your} brotherly kindness, love.
    For if these {qualities} are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Luke 8:35 — {The people} went out to see what had happened; and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting down at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they became frightened.
