  • Genesis 18:22-26 — Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the LORD.
    Abraham came near and said, "Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?
    ~"Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep {it} away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it?
    ~"Far be it from You to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are {treated} alike. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?"
    So the LORD said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place on their account."
  • Genesis 18:27-31 — And Abraham replied, "Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am {but} dust and ashes.
    ~"Suppose the fifty righteous are lacking five, will You destroy the whole city because of five?" And He said, "I will not destroy {it} if I find forty-five there."
    He spoke to Him yet again and said, "Suppose forty are found there?" And He said, "I will not do {it} on account of the forty."
    Then he said, "Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak; suppose thirty are found there?" And He said, "I will not do {it} if I find thirty there."
    And he said, "Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord; suppose twenty are found there?" And He said, "I will not destroy {it} on account of the twenty."
  • Genesis 18:32-33 — Then he said, "Oh may the Lord not be angry, and I shall speak only this once; suppose ten are found there?" And He said, "I will not destroy {it} on account of the ten."
    As soon as He had finished speaking to Abraham the LORD departed, and Abraham returned to his place.
  • Genesis 26:17-20 — And Isaac departed from there and camped in the valley of Gerar, and settled there.
    Then Isaac dug again the wells of water which had been dug in the days of his father Abraham, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham; and he gave them the same names which his father had given them.
    But when Isaac's servants dug in the valley and found there a well of flowing water,
    the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with the herdsmen of Isaac, saying, "The water is ours!" So he named the well Esek, because they contended with him.
  • Genesis 26:21-22 — Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over it too, so he named it Sitnah.
    He moved away from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it; so he named it Rehoboth, for he said, "At last the LORD has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land."
  • Exodus 34:6-7 — Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;
    who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave {the guilty} unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations."

    "However, You bore with them for many years, And admonished them by Your Spirit through Your prophets, Yet they would not give ear. Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.
    "Nevertheless, in Your great compassion You did not make an end of them or forsake them, For You are a gracious and compassionate God.
  • Job 1:21 — He said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked I shall return there. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD."

    For he who lacks these {qualities} is blind {or} short-sighted, having forgotten {his} purification from his former sins.
