  • Genesis 18:1-5 — Now the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the tent door in the heat of the day.
    When he lifted up his eyes and looked, behold, three men were standing opposite him; and when he saw {them,} he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth,
    and said, "My Lord, if now I have found favor in Your sight, please do not pass Your servant by.
    ~"Please let a little water be brought and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree;
    and I will bring a piece of bread, that you may refresh yourselves; after that you may go on, since you have visited your servant." And they said, "So do, as you have said."
  • Genesis 18:6-8 — So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly, prepare three measures of fine flour, knead {it} and make bread cakes."
    Abraham also ran to the herd, and took a tender and choice calf and gave {it} to the servant, and he hurried to prepare it.
    He took curds and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and placed {it} before them; and he was standing by them under the tree as they ate.
  • Genesis 19:1-3 — Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw {them,} he rose to meet them and bowed down {with his} face to the ground.
    And he said, "Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant's house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way." They said however, "No, but we shall spend the night in the square."
    Yet he urged them strongly, so they turned aside to him and entered his house; and he prepared a feast for them, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
  • Genesis 24:31-33 — And he said, "Come in, blessed of the LORD! Why do you stand outside since I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels?"
    So the man entered the house. Then Laban unloaded the camels, and he gave straw and feed to the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.
    But when {food} was set before him to eat, he said, "I will not eat until I have told my business." And he said, "Speak on."
  • Genesis 29:13-14 — So when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister's son, he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. Then he related to Laban all these things.
    Laban said to him, "Surely you are my bone and my flesh." And he stayed with him a month.
  • Exodus 2:20 — He said to his daughters, "Where is he then? Why is it that you have left the man behind? Invite him to have something to eat."
  • Judges 19:16-19 — Then behold, an old man was coming out of the field from his work at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he was staying in Gibeah, but the men of the place were Benjamites.
    And he lifted up his eyes and saw the traveler in the open square of the city; and the old man said, "Where are you going, and where do you come from?"
    He said to him, "We are passing from Bethlehem in Judah to the remote part of the hill country of Ephraim, {for} I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem in Judah. But I am {now} going to my house, and no man will take me into his house.
    ~"Yet there is both straw and fodder for our donkeys, and also bread and wine for me, your maidservant, and the young man who is with your servants; there is no lack of anything."
  • Judges 19:20-21 — The old man said, "Peace to you. Only let me {take care of} all your needs; however, do not spend the night in the open square."
    So he took him into his house and gave the donkeys fodder, and they washed their feet and ate and drank.
  • 1 Kings 17:10-14 — So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, "Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink."
    As she was going to get {it,} he called to her and said, "Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand."
    But she said, "As the LORD your God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and die."
    Then Elijah said to her, "Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from it first and bring {it} out to me, and afterward you may make {one} for yourself and for your son.
    ~"For thus says the LORD God of Israel, `The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the face of the earth."'
  • 1 Kings 17:15-16 — So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for {many} days.
    The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke through Elijah.
  • 2 Kings 4:8-11 — Now there came a day when Elisha passed over to Shunem, where there was a prominent woman, and she persuaded him to eat food. And so it was, as often as he passed by, he turned in there to eat food.
    She said to her husband, "Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God passing by us continually.
    ~"Please, let us make a little walled upper chamber and let us set a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; and it shall be, when he comes to us, {that} he can turn in there."
    One day he came there and turned in to the upper chamber and rested.

    "Then He will also say to those on His left, `Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
    for I was hungry, and you gave Me {nothing} to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;
    I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'
  • Matthew 25:44-46~"Then they themselves also will answer, `Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'
    ~"Then He will answer them, `Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
