  • Genesis 33:1-4 — Then Jacob lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two maids.
    He put the maids and their children in front, and Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.
    But he himself passed on ahead of them and bowed down to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
    Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.
  • Genesis 45:4-5 — Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Please come closer to me." And they came closer. And he said, "I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.
    ~"Now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.
  • Genesis 45:9 — ~"Hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, `Thus says your son Joseph, "God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay.

  • Matthew 18:26-30~"So the slave fell {to the ground} and prostrated himself before him, saying, `Have patience with me and I will repay you everything.'
    ~"And the lord of that slave felt compassion and released him and forgave him the debt.
    ~"But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred (The denarius was a day's wages) denarii; and he seized him and {began} to choke {him,} saying, `Pay back what you owe.'
    ~"So his fellow slave fell {to the ground} and {began} to plead with him, saying, `Have patience with me and I will repay you.'
    ~"But he was unwilling and went and threw him in prison until he should pay back what was owed.
  • Matthew 18:31-35~"So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened.
    ~"Then summoning him, his lord *said to him, `You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me.
    ~`Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?'
    ~"And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him.
    ~"My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart."
  • Mark 11:25-26~"Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.

    ~"If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is {that} to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same {amount.}
    ~"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil {men.}

    Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
  • Ephesians 4:32 — Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven (Two early mss read {us}) you.
  • Colossians 3:12-13 — So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
    bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
