SANCTIFICATION
(See also DEDICATION; HOLINESS; HOLY)
The term sanctification refers to separation from ordinary use for God's possession and service (e.g., Exodus 19:5-6, 10). Sanctification of persons includes separation from all moral evil (cf. 2 Corinthians 7:1). God's own sanctification or holiness also involves His exalted, transcendent relationship to man and the rest of His finite creation (Isaiah 6:1-5; 57:15). In Christian doctrine, the term sanctification is generally used of the believer's progress in spiritual growth (Romans 6:19, 22; I Thessalonians 4:3; cf. 2 Corinthians 3:18).
