The term salvation refers to deliverance from danger, ruin, destruction or sin and into wholeness and safety. The Lord alone provides spiritual salvation (Jonah 2:9; Matthew 19:25-26; Titus 3:5), while man occasionally accomplishes physical salvation (Deuteronomy 22:27; Judges 10:1; Jeremiah 48:6). The NT presents salvation primarily as spiritual deliverance from sin and death and possession of eternal life (Matthew 1:21; John 5:24; Romans 6:23; Colossians 1:12-14). Throughout human history, people are saved only by grace through faith, based on the redemptive work of Christ (Genesis 15:6; Romans 3:22-26; 4:1-25; Ephesians 2:8-9). True salvation results in personal holiness and good works upon earth and culminates in a glorified life with God in heaven forever (Romans 8:29-30; Ephesians 2:10; James 2:14-26; 1 Peter 1:15-16; Revelation 21:1-4).
