NAME
In biblical usage a name identifies a person, animal, or thing, and it also reveals character when a particular person is denoted. The divine names are so closely associated with the divine nature that they are used as virtually equivalent to God Himself (cf. Isaiah 30:27) (see also GOD, names of; LORD). The significant expression "in the name of Jesus" indicates "in the authority or power of Jesus," (cf. Luke 10:17); John 14:13; 16:24; Acts 3:6, 16; 4:7; 16:18; Philippians 2:10). To genuinely believe "in" or "into" or to "call upon" the name of the Lord Jesus indicates commitment to Him and establishment of communion with Him (e.g., John 1:12; 3:18; Acts 2:21; 9:14; Romans 10:13; 1 John 3:23; 5:13).
