FOREKNOWLEDGE
(See CHOSEN; GOD, attributes of, omniscient)
The terms for foreknowledge always occur in Scripture with reference to God and with persons as their object. Divine foreknowledge involves perfect understanding (i.e., omniscience) of all future events, both actual and potential (Psalms 147:5; Isaiah 46:9-10; Acts 15:18). God's foreknowledge is interrelated with His "predetermined plan" (Acts 2:23; cf. Ephesians 1:11) as seen in His redemptive purpose through Christ, who "was foreknown before the foundation of the world" (1 Peter 1:20). In biblical usage, divine foreknowledge is applied primarily to humans whom God brings into a special relationship with Himself as His chosen people (Romans 11:2, 28).
