MIRACLES
In the biblical sense a miracle is an event that is contrary to the regularly observed processes of nature. A number of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek words are used for the three distinctive emphases of miracles in Scripture: (1) an emphasis on the extraordinary nature of the miracle; (2) an emphasis on the power of the miracle; and (3) an emphasis on the meaning or significance of the miracle. Under the latter notion the purpose of the miracle is a confirmatory, corroborative, or authenticating token intended to cause recognition of a particular person or thing. (Signs may also be non-miraculous, see SIGNS).
