The so-called "golden rule" is an ethical principle that you should "do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The biblical basis for this principle is stated by Jesus Himself: "Therefore, however you want people to treat you, so treat them, for this is the Law and the Prophets" (Matthew 7:12; cf. Luke 6:31). Such conduct correlates closely with the second great commandment: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:39), which in turn summarizes the second part of the Decalogue (Exodus 20:12-17; cf. Romans 13:8-10; Galatians 5:13-14). Practice of the golden rule and neighborly love are wonderfully illustrated in the parable of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).
