Astrology is the study of the heavenly bodies in an attempt to determine their supposed influence on persons and events and thereby to predict the future (Isaiah 47:13). Heavenly signs at the first coming of Jesus (Matthew 2:1-2) and also at His second coming (Luke 21:25) do not justify the practice of astrology. God alone controls all things for His own wise purpose and glory (Isaiah 46:10; Ephesians 1:11 (cf. Romans 11:36) (see also GOD, attributes of, sovereign). God expressly prohibits His people from worshiping or serving the heavenly bodies and from being influenced and deluded by heavenly signs (Deuteronomy 4:19; Jeremiah 10:2-3). God's people must trust Him totally for direction in their lives (Proverbs 3:5-6).
