Work
Expected time: 4 sessions of 10 minutes (except for memorization). Check each item when completed.
- Pray about this lesson. (Allow God to do beyond your capabilities in this lesson.)
- Compare Matthew 16:26 to Proverbs 18:9. What do these verses say about being lazy vs. being a workaholic? What is the correct balance?
- Memorize Colossians 3:23 (add 3:24 if you wish). Notes on memorization:
- It is difficult to succeed in any fundamental area of living without memorizing a verse on it.
- Always memorize in one translation.
- Always memorize word-for-word.
- When saying, always say the verse reference, then the verse itself, then the reference again.
- Memorize during "brainless" activities, like driving, standing in line, during commercials, ...
- Regularly review verses previously memorized.
- Read as many of the following as time permits (read at least 4), answering the questions below.
- Describe laziness. How do you recognize it, and what are the results? Include comments about both occupational work and work around the house.
- Describe a proper work ethic (that is, the proper moral attitude about your work). Include comments about both occupational work and work around the house.
- List the following in the order of the greatest to the lowest priority in your life -- family, housework, God, friends, yourself, your job. Then, rate each one from 1 to 9, where 1 is lazy and 9 is workaholic (and 5 is the proper balance). What does this show you about your real priorities, and your work ethics?
- Discuss -- "You always find time to do what you want to do." In this discussion, what more is being revealed about your work ethics and your priorities?
- From the above, determine something of which you need to change. One way to encourage success in this area is to say the memorized verse when struggling with what to do. What one other thing can you be doing to improve in this area?
