Riches
Expected time: 7 sessions of 15 minutes (except for memorization). Check each item when completed.
- Pray about this lesson. (Allow God to do beyond your capabilities in this lesson.)
- Read Proverbs 13:7 and Matthew 6:19-21. How can we become rich?
- Memorize Ephesians 4:28. Notes on memorization:
- It is difficult to succeed in any fundamental area of living without memorizing a verse on it.
- Always memorize in one translation.
- Always memorize word-for-word.
- When saying, always say the verse reference, then the verse itself, then the reference again.
- Memorize during "brainless" activities, like driving, standing in line, during commercials, ...
- Regularly review verses previously memorized.
- Read as many of the following as time permits, answering the questions below.
- If everyone in the church gave the same percentage of their income that you give, what position would the church be in? (See the Exodus 35-36 passage listed above.)
- If you give, what does God promise to you? (Also, compare the "prosperity gospel" to Hebrews 11:32-39.)
- Describe how we should obtain money, what we should do with our money, and the proper attitudes in both.
- Every one of us loves money. If I gave you 100, no, let's say 1000, dollars each week to get into God's Word and prayer daily, you'd do it without much hesitation, eh? God says his riches are far greater than the world's, but we don't really understand that. All of the world's riches are "Fool's gold", yet we don't know it. Be creative -- how can we change our way of thinking, and truly value God's golden nuggets above the world's?
- From the above, determine something of which you need to change. One way to encourage success in this area is to say a memorized verse on this subject when struggling with what to do. What one other thing can you be doing to improve in this area?
