Maturity
Expected time: 4 sessions of 15 minutes (except for memorization). Check each item when completed.
- Pray about this lesson. (Allow God to do beyond your capabilities in this lesson.)
- This lesson addresses growing towards maturity, so you can get to where you can tell others "Imitate me, as I imitate Christ," and so you can finish the fight strong. 1 Corinthians was written by Paul around 55 A.D., and 2 Timothy was Paul's last letter in Scripture, written from prison around 65 A.D. Read 1 Corinthians 11:1 and 2 Timothy 4:7. What do these verses tell us about maturing and finishing?
- Memorize 1 Corinthians 11:1 and 2 Timothy 4:7. Notes on memorization:
- It is difficult to succeed in any fundamental area of living without memorizing a verse on it.
- Always memorize in one translation.
- Always memorize word-for-word.
- When saying, always say the verse reference, then the verse itself, then the reference again.
- Memorize during "brainless" activities, like driving, standing in line, during commercials, ...
- Regularly review verses previously memorized.
- Read as many of the following as time permits, answering the questions below.
- Describe maturity in Christ. Describe the process of moving towards maturity in Christ. List examples of where the writers of Scripture told others to imitate them. Is this a goal all Christians should have?
- Are you running the race? What are you aiming towards? If you completed your life as you are now, would you be satisfied? What do you think Christ's wants of you?
- Do you know anyone you would consider mature in Christ, or maturing in Christ? If so, what is it that you see?
- Speaking about his son, a song rings the words of a father, "Lord, I want to be just like you, cuz he wants to be just like me." If you have children, are you the person you want your children to become? Why or why not? If not, use this in the next question below.
- From the above, determine something of which you need to change. One way to encourage success in this area is to say the memorized verse when struggling with what to do. What one other thing can you be doing to improve in this area?
