Loyalty
Expected time: 4 sessions of 15 minutes (except for memorization). Check each item when completed.
- Pray about this lesson. (Allow God to do beyond your capabilities in this lesson.)
- Read Joshua 1:16-18, Ruth 1:15-17, 1 Samuel 24:6-8, 1 Samuel 26:7-9, and Hebrews 13:5 for examples of loyalty.
- Memorize Hebrews 10:24-25. Notes on memorization:
- It is difficult to succeed in any fundamental area of living without memorizing a verse on it.
- Always memorize in one translation.
- Always memorize word-for-word.
- When saying, always say the verse reference, then the verse itself, then the reference again.
- Memorize during "brainless" activities, like driving, standing in line, during commercials, ...
- Regularly review verses previously memorized.
- Read as many of the following as time permits, answering the questions below.
- Is double-mindedness the opposite of loyalty?
- Describe loyalty to (and find Scripture for) the following:
- God
- authorities in the government
- authorities in your church
- authorities in your workplace
- the church
- friends
- spouse
- family
- What causes someone to not be loyal to the above? When should you be loyal? When should you abandon loyalty? Are there degrees between the two?
- In the above list, have you ever felt like giving up on any in the list? Have you felt like "That's the last straw!" ? What kind of effort did you make to deal with the other "straws"? Are you currently dealing with "straws" in each of the above?
- From the above, determine something of which you need to change. One way to encourage success in this area is to say a memorized verse on this subject when struggling with what to do. What one other thing can you be doing to improve in this area?
