- Pray about this lesson. (Allow God to do beyond your capabilities in this lesson.)
- Read 1 Corinthians 11:29-30. This passage is talking about receiving communion. What are the consequences of taking communion in an unworthy manner?
- Memorize Proverbs 17:22. Notes on memorization:
- It is difficult to succeed in any fundamental area of living without memorizing a verse on it.
- Always memorize in one translation.
- Always memorize word-for-word.
- When saying, always say the verse reference, then the verse itself, then the reference again.
- Memorize during "brainless" activities, like driving, standing in line, during commercials, ...
- Regularly review verses previously memorized.
- Read as many of the following as time permits, answering the questions below.
- Discuss: there are many factors about being healthy that are outside our control, but there are many that are in our control. Beyond the typical eating and exercising advice, what does the Bible tell us we can do to stay healthy? (Also, what may be causes of sickness?)
- Is being healthy a Christian "right"? Does God guarantee health if certain conditions are met? Explain.
- Once you have an infirmity (sickness, injury, etc.), what things should you do as a Christian? I.e., what should be your attitude about it, and how should you approach healing?
- What spiritual benefits does God provide in sickness? In health?
- From the above, determine something of which you need to change. One way to encourage success in this area is to say the memorized verse when struggling with what to do. What one other thing can you be doing to improve in this area?
