Contentment

Expected time: 3 sessions of 15 minutes (except for memorization). Check each item when completed.

 

  1. Pray about this lesson. (Allow God to do beyond your capabilities in this lesson.)

  3. Read what Paul says in Philippians 4:10-13. Compare to what Paul says in 2 Cor. 11:23-28. What does this example tell us about feelings we may have of discontent?

  5. Memorize Philippians 4:11. Notes on memorization:

    • It is difficult to succeed in any fundamental area of living without memorizing a verse on it.
    • Always memorize in one translation.
    • Always memorize word-for-word.
    • When saying, always say the verse reference, then the verse itself, then the reference again.
    • Memorize during "brainless" activities, like driving, standing in line, during commercials, ...
    • Regularly review verses previously memorized.

     

  7. Read as many of the following as time permits (read at least 8), answering the questions below.

  9. Tell what it means to be content. (List what the Bible says about contentment.)

  11. Discuss what things around us discourage contentment.
  12.  

  13. Is it okay to have goals? How can you have goals and yet be content?
  14.  

  15. From the above, determine something of which you need to change. One way to encourage success in this area is to say the memorized verse when struggling. What one other thing can you do this week to help you to become more content?
