What is the Will of God for You

These are things to consider when you are looking at options in your life, and trying to determine which choice would be what God wants.


Questions to ask:


  1. Have you sought God's will? Have you looked for what He would have you to do? John 5:30

  2. Is the need for salvation a factor? John 6:40

  3. Have you prayed about it? With faith? Mat 7:7, Phil 4:6-7, James 1:5

  4. Have you committed your decision to the Lord? Psa 37:5

  5. Have you searched the Scriptures for the answer? 2 Tim 3:16

  6. Have you delighted in the Lord, putting Him as first place in your life? Psa 37:4, Matt 6:33, Rom 8:28

  7. Have you sought the counsel of others? Have you sought counsel from the right people? Prov 11:14

  8. Have you sought the advice of your parents? Have you heeded their advice? Prov 1:8

  9. Is laziness, avoiding work that should be done, a factor? Prov 24:33-34

  10. Are you allowing worldly ways, attitudes, or influences to affect your decision? Rom 12:2, 1 John 2:15-16

  11. Do you have doubts? Which decision gives you peace? Rom 14:23, Phil 4:6-7, Col 3:15

  12. Will this cause problems or be a stumbling block with those who are weaker in the faith? 1 Cor 8:9

  13. Can you do this to glorify God? 1 Cor 10:31

  14. Which decision will be a better use of your time? Eph 5:15

  15. What do circumstances seem to say about this decision? Phil 1:12

  16. Is selfishness a factor in the decision? Are the interests of others being considered? Phil 2:3-4

  17. Does either decision present itself as looking like evil? 1 Th 5:21-22

  18. Have you patiently waited for God to answer? 2 Pet 3:9

  19. Have you examined the situation carefully? Did you give a fair review of all choices? Are there other choices you have not yet considered? 1 Th 5:21-22

  20. Have you allowed God to affect every part of the decision? Prov 3:6

  21. Can you accept God's will, even if it is not what you want? Prov 3:5, Acts 21:12-14, Mat 26:39,42

  22. Can you thank God in the decision? Col 3:15


Remember:

  1. Take time to examine everything carefully. 1 Thess 5:21-22.

  2. As you do God's will, complete what He asked you to do, and do it wholeheartedly. John 4:34, Psa 119:34

  3. "To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin." James 4:17

  4. "A man's heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps." Prov 16:9

  5. "The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way." Psa 25:9


Notes:

  1. The Holy Spirit will give us counsel and knowledge. Isa 11:2

  2. God's will will be done. Mat 6:10

  3. He who does God's will is favored with God, not those who just say He is Lord. Mat 7:21

  4. As you obey God's will, you will see that He is faithful and right. John 7:16-18

  5. God said of David, that David was "a man after My own heart, who will do all My will." May God say that of us. Acts 13:21-22

  6. When you make plans, allow for them to change - you don't know what tomorrow has in store for you. When making plans, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall do this or that." James 4:13-15
