What Does the Bible Say?

Why wasnt Jesus named Immanuel?

To answer this question, we need to look at what Immanuel translates to. Immanuel literally means "God with us". Jesus was God in human form. He was God with us. Jesus has several names, and each one names a different one of His attributes. Immanuel is a name that shows us that He was both God and man.

  • Matthew 1:22-23 — Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
"BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US."
