What Does the Bible Say?

What was Jesus view of women?

Jesus treated women as equals. In a society where a woman's testimony was not accepted, Jesus entrusted them as witnesses to the apostles.

In a society where women were not permitted to study the Torah or even converse with a man, Jesus had a theological discussion with the woman at the well and Martha concerning the resurrection.

This was unheard of back in Jesus time. Women were treated as slaves or property, not equal human beings. Jesus taught that women are equal to enjoy the same spiritual blessings as men, and they are to be treated with respect.

And behold, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him.
Then Jesus *said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and take word to My brethren to leave for Galilee, and there they will see Me."
  • John 4:19-29 — The woman *said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
~"Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you {people} say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship."
Jesus *said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
~"You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
~"But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
  • 1 Peter 3:7 — You husbands in the same way, live with {your wives} in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
