Is it possible to lose salvation?
Anyone who is truly saved cannot lose their salvation. Since we cannot gain our salvation by being good (see the Question about good works), neither can we lose our salvation because of sin.
It is God's grace (free gift that we don't deserve) that saves is - it is not what we did. The Bible tells us that once we’re saved, we’re justified (freed from our sins), so God forgives us when we mess up again.
When we become a Christian, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. That seal cannot be broken.
While it's not possible for someone to lose their salvation, it is possible for someone to think their saved and actually not be. The Bible tells us that once we're saved, our life begins to change - we have a new desire to do things that are right and pleasing to God.
Be careful, though, because being saved not a license to sin. Sin always negatively affects your life, it hurts your relationship with God, and hinders the results of prayer. One who is truly saved should not want to freely sin - they, with the urging of the Holy Spirit in them, will fight the desire to give in to temptaiton, even though they often fail.
So, while it's not possible for someone to lose their salvation, any person who claims to be a believer and yet continues in a life of unrepentant sin needs to question whether or not they were truly saved.
Ephesians 2:8-9 — For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, {it is} the gift of God;
not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
1 Corinthians 6:11 — Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
