What Does the Bible Say?

Is homosexuality a sin?

The acts, lusts, and passions of homosexuality are sin. The temptation for it is not, as no temptations are sin until acted upon.

The Bible tells us directly:
  • The act of homosexuality is sin, something that will prevent entrance into the kingdom of God, something that needs God's forgiveness.
  • Homosexuality is a degrading passion, unnatural, indecent, worthy of penalty from God, depraved, not proper.

  • Places where it also is implied to be wrong:
  • In the list of the character traits of a godly man, he is to be "the husband of one wife".
  • There is a hierarchy in the home, with the husband to be the leader of the home.

  • James 1:14-15 — But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
  • 1 Cor 6:9-11 — Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor (I.e. effeminate by perversion) effeminate, nor homosexuals,
nor thieves, nor {the} covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
  • Lev 20:13 — ~`If {there is} a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them.

  • Romans 1:26-28 — For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
  • Lev 18:22 — ~`You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.

  • 1 Tim 3:2 — An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

  • Eph 5:23-24 — For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself {being} the Savior of the body.
But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives {ought to be} to their husbands in everything.
