What Does the Bible Say?

Communion

Communion is only for Christians

We observe Communion because the Lord told us to

In Communion we are remembering Christ - His life, death and resurrection

Communion is a time to examine ourselves

  • Take a careful look at your life to see if you are honoring God with your life.
  • Take a careful look at how you are taking Communion, to make sure you are doing it to honor God.
  • (1 Corinthians 11:27-30, 1 Corinthians 11:31-34)

Communion proclaims Christ until He returns

Communion proclaims our participation in the church (the body of believers)

The bread and drink of Communion are symbols of Christ's body and blood

  • (Luke 22:19-20)
  • Some view the bread and drink in Communion as the actual body and blood of Christ (referred to as Transubstantiation).
  • But, in the first Communion, it was not actually Christ's body and blood - it was a symbol, showing that it is the same today.

There are numerous terms for Communion

  • The Lord's Supper
  • Holy Communion
  • The Sacrament of Communion
  • Bread and Wine (the Elements)
  • The Body and Blood of Christ
  • The Eucharist
